When Circle Yoga founder Annie Mahon set out to open her flagship yoga studio in Chevy Chase DC, back in March, 2003, her aim was simple: to bring the joy of mindful yoga, and all its benefits, including stress-reduction, greater flexibility, and a sense of inner peace, to adults, children and families of Washington DC.
As a student of renowned Buddhist teacher Thich Nhat Hanh and longtime practitioner of both yoga and mindfulness meditation, Annie believes in the power of yoga, meditation, and mindful living to create mental and physical well-being and ultimately transform our lives.
After studying and teaching conflict resolution and yoga to children in DC’s public schools for several years, Annie decided it was time to create a space where people could relax, practice yoga and just be – a place where everyone is welcome, regardless of age, physical condition, or previous knowledge about yoga.
By offering a range of yoga classes and workshops to suit all ages, fitness levels, and other individual requirements. Circle Yoga, and our partner kids’ yoga studio, Budding Yogis, provide the mental and physical space we all need to slow down, catch our breath and enjoy the moment, as well as focus on our deepest commitments towards family and well-being.
In 2006, Circle Yoga embarked on a complete renovation to create three brand-new, sunny, light-filled yoga studios (including a stroller and wheelchair accessible studio on the ground floor), along with a welcoming reception area, retail space to browse in, and a contemplative Zen garden outside. Today, the studio is the center of a warm, welcoming community of students, teachers and families who come together to take classes, connect with others, or simply hang out and just be.
